NOTAS SOBRE SU ESTILO

esumen
El artículo examina algunas características del estilo narrativo de José Re-
vueltas, tales como: 1) la
interpretación
de los hechos narrados –que a
veces sustituye a buena parte de la historia–; 2) la digresión filosófi-
co-poética; 3) el carácter bíblico y sentencioso de esas digresiones; 4) una
adjetivación excesiva; 5) la fuerza tempestuosa de su estilo. Muestra el
artículo que este estilo está en función de una cosmovisión personal de
gran riqueza y compasión humanas: el mundo concebido como una pri-
sión, y la lucha del hombre por su libertad. Revueltas no se mantuvo es-
tático, ni en literatura ni en política. Ese estilo, común a sus novelas y
cuentos, evolucionó hacia una narrativa austera, de gran pureza, percep-
tible sobre todo en
El apando
, su obra maestra.

bstract
This article examines some of the characteristics of José Revueltas’ narra-
tive style, such as: 1) The
interpretation
of the tale told –which sometimes
replaces a considerable part of the story itself–; 2) The philosophical-po-
etical digression; 3) The biblical and sententious character of those digres-
sions; 4) The attributive abuse; 5) The tempestuous strength of his style.
The article shows how this style expresses a personal view of the world,
plenty of human compassion: the world conceived as a prison, and the
man’s fight for his freedom. Revueltas never remains static, neither in lit-
erature, nor in politics. That style, in his novels and short stories as well,
evolved towards a narrative of great austerity and purity, exposed particu-
larly in
El apando
, his masterwork.
